Kevin Pease made a mark in his amateur career, winning a lightweight title before turning pro in late 2021. The Memphis-born fighter, who trains at Kill Cliff FC, has a knack for finishes, with three submissions and a TKO as he enters tonight 5-0 (1 NC). Pease most recently fought in April, scoring a decision win over C.J. LaFragola.

 

Wrestling, meanwhile, is Nick Meck’s game, having won titles in high school before becoming an NAIA All-American. Meck has won seven of his eight professional fights so far, which includes four finishes and a regional title at welterweight. Meck most recently fought in March, running through Austin Clem.

 

Which of these two will make the most of their first performance on a major MMA stage?

 

 

Round 1

 

Low kick from Pease, but Meck gets Pease off balance with a right hand. Pease falls to the mat and Meck gets on top of him. Pease makes his way to the fence with Meck still on him. Pease gets back to his feet, but Meck gets him back to the ground. Meck tries to flatten him, but Pease defends and works his way back to his feet again. Pease reverses the position briefly as they go to the ground again, but Meck counters and gets himself back on top. Pease on his feet again as they’re in a clinch against the fence. Knee to the body by Meck. Meck drops Pease with a counter right! Meck gets on top and goes to work over Pease again.

 

 

Pease appears to be cut open on his head as Meck continues to work from the top with wrist control. Meck looks for an arm triangle and he manages to get to full mount. Meck rolls through with Pease and gets to Pease’s back, looking for a choke. Pease gets out of it, but Meck is still smothering him with pressure. Meck pressed Pease against the fence for a little longer before Pease escaped and returned the fight to the center with about a minute left. After some exchanging, Pease looks for a takedown, but Meck sprawls. Meck ends the round in top position, holding Pease’s back until the last two seconds of the round.

 

 

 

Round 2

 

Low kick from Pease to start. Right hand and a font kick from Meck. Right hand from Meck. The two exchange and Pease wobbles Meck briefly! He recovers quickly, however, and the two continue to exchange. Low kick from Pease again. Meck goes for a takedown, but Pease sprawls. Pease lands punches to the body in the North-South. Meck gets back to the feet, and it’s a clinch against the SmartCage. Right hand by Meck. One-two lands powerfully for Pease. Body kick by Pease. Right hand by Meck. Pease presses forward and gets Meck back to the fence. A couple of knees on the inside by Pease before the separation.

 

 

Both connect with straights. Low kick from Pease. One-two again for Pease. One-two by Meck. Right hand by Meck. Meck with a small flurry. Low kick from Pease. Combination from Meck, and Pease answers with a left hand. One-two from Pease, and Pease presses Meck to the fence. Pease scores the takedown! Pease stays busy with the left hand, keeping the grounded pressure on Meck. Pease looks to get into mount. Both men throwing on the ground, trying to improve position. The round ends with Pease staying on top.

 

 

Round 3

 

Back to exchanging very early in the fight. Both men showing some fatigue. Meck gets Pease to the fence and briefly gets another takedown. Pease with a couple of left hands to the back. Pease works the leg and the body and tries to get a takedown. Meck reverses the position, but Pease counters that on the standup and goes for a guillotine! Pease is unable to maintain his grip and lets go of the submission attempt. Meck landing some knees to the legs of Pease.

 

 

Meck continuing to press against the SmartCage, trying desperately for the takedown. The referee not calling blatant cage grabs by Pease. Pease landing hammerfist shots to Meck and he’s not defending. Meck finally starts moving. The fight goes back to the center only briefly, as Pease quickly gets Meck’s back to the fence again. Meck looks for a switch as the fight goes to the ground briefly. Meck now pressing Pease to the fence. The two exchanging knees to the body with about a minute left in the fight. After some more exchanging, Meck tries to wrench on Pease’s arm as they battle against the fence. The fight ends in this grinding position.
