Movsar Ibragimov survives early knockdowns to score Von Flue choke in front of home crowd

Belgium’s Movsar Ibragimov is known for aggressive pace, powerful hooks, and slick chokes. Ibragimov has fought in promotions around Europe already and is a perfect 6-0 with six finishes. Ibragimov fought just last month, scoring a second-round submission of Thiago Henrique.

Gerardo Fanny competes in his 20th pro bout tonight, entering with wins in 14 of those bouts, including 12 finishes. Fanny has fought in several noteworthy regional promotions, and he is known for dynamic striking and knockout power. Fanny has won three of four, coming into tonight off a first-round finish of George Antonio Iancu in November.

Round 1

Low kick from Ibragimov. Fanny with a couple of low kicks. Fanny backs Ibragimov up with a right hand. Fanny slips up Ibragimov with a right hand. Low kick by Ibragimov. Fanny works a combination. One-twos from both men. Low kick from Ibragimov. A high kick from Ibragimov is blocked. Big left hand drops Ibragimov! Fanny drops him again with a flurry. Ibragimov keeps getting up, but he’s swollen badly around one of his eyes. Ibragimov goes in and he secures a much-needed takedown!

Ibragimov tries to work his way over to Fanny’s back. Fanny tries to work his way back up, but Ibragimov returns him to the mat. Ibragimov then places him back down to the mat, as Ibragimov tries to work from half-guard. Strong punches and elbows from up top by Ibragimov. Fanny locks up Ibragimov and scrambles back to his feet. A one-two from Ibragimov, and he’s able to bring the action back to the ground. Ibragimov is landing to the body as Fanny throws up his guard. The round ends with Ibragimov in top position.

Round 2

Strong right hand from Ibragimov misses. Left hand from Ibragimov. Body kick by Fanny. Low kick by Ibragimov. Fanny goes for a jumping kick but gets tripped up. Fanny scrambles to avoid a takedown. Left hand to the body by Fanny. Strong jumping knee by Fanny catches Ibragimov on the shoulder. Left hand by Fanny. Ibragimov with a takedown. Fanny sprawls, but Ibragimov spins him and scores the takedown on the second effort. Fanny gets an arm around for a guillotine attempt, but that creates an opening for Ibragimov to get a Von Flue choke. Ibragimov goes for it, and he gets it!
